You are not alone on this journey. Let's walk this path together.
Beginning therapy can be difficult. Making the first contact via phone or email is challenging. Once you connect with a therapist for a consult, you can decide whether you think the two of you could work well together.
Making the first appointment can be intimidating as well. You may think “what should I talk about?” or “what will this person think of me and my life?”
First sessions are really about information gathering: it’s a lot like a business meeting, really. This is where we discuss what’s bringing you into treatment, some of your background and what you want to get from therapy.
From there, we work together to meet your goals.
How to make therapy work best?
Regular attendance: if you decide you want weekly sessions, stick with that. If you need therapy bi-weekly, make and keep time for your sessions.
Know that what you are putting into therapy will make a difference: if you just come to treatment to say you’re in therapy, rather than do the “work” you may obtain less from sessions.
If you are not ready to make the time and/or financial commitment, that’s okay. You can return to therapy at a later date.

In particular:
Coping skills

Coping skills are valuable tools that empower individuals to navigate life's challenges with resilience and strength. By identifying and practicing healthy coping strategies, individuals can enhance their overall well-being and build greater emotional resilience in the face of adversity.
Some coping skills include:
Problem-Solving Skills
Emotional Regulation Techniques
Social Support
Self-Care Practices
Breathing
Mindfulness/Meditation
Depending on each client’s needs, we will find individualized tools that can help.
EMDR
EMDR therapy is a structured therapy approach that helps individuals process distressing memories and experiences. It involves activating both sides of the brain through bilateral stimulation, which can be achieved through eye movements, tactile taps, or auditory tones. This bilateral stimulation is thought to mimic the rapid eye movement (REM) sleep phase where processing of information occurs naturally. This therapy is not used for anxiety, depression, phobias and other issues as well. Ask me for more information if you are interested.
How Does EMDR Work?
During an EMDR session, clients are guided to recall distressing memories or experiences while simultaneously focusing on bilateral stimulation. This helps to facilitate the processing of these memories, allowing the brain to reprocess the information in a way that reduces the emotional charge associated with them. As a result, clients often report a decrease in the intensity of their symptoms and a greater sense of empowerment and resolution.
Talk Therapy
Talk therapy, also known as psychotherapy or counseling, provides a supportive and confidential environment where individuals can explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors with a trained therapist. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or life transitions, talk therapy can help you gain insight, develop coping skills, and work towards positive changes in your life.
Talk therapy is a collaborative process between a therapist and a client aimed at improving emotional well-being and resolving psychological difficulties. Unlike medical interventions, talk therapy focuses on addressing underlying emotional and cognitive patterns rather than solely treating symptoms.
Some examples of talk therapy include:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Psychodynamic Therapy
Humanistic Therapy
Mindfulness-Based Therapy

First Responders:
EMDR therapy offers a specialized approach to address the unique challenges faced by military personnel, medical professionals, and first responders. We are trained to understand the intricacies of these professions and the toll they can take on mental health. By employing Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) techniques, we help individuals process traumatic experiences, reduce the intensity of emotional distress, and develop healthier coping mechanisms. Whether it's dealing with combat-related trauma, the stress of life-saving medical interventions, or the emotional strain of emergency response situations, our therapists provide a safe and supportive environment for healing and growth. Through EMDR, we aim to empower our clients to overcome obstacles, enhance resilience, and reclaim a sense of control over their lives.
